Elizabeth Kwan commenced her antique and vintage jewellery business in 1998. Elizabeth began her career as an Antique Jewellery Dealer after many years of interest in collecting antiques and jewellery.
Elizabeth travels extensively overseas to collect her stock to provide her clients with a first class collection. The jewellery is sourced in London, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The antique and vintage collection ranges from the early 1800's of the English Georgian period to 1980s vintage pieces. The advantage of collecting antique jewellery lies in the fact that not only does one acquire a unique piece but it is ever increasing in value. There seems to be a growing interest in antique and vintage jewellery, due mainly Elizabeth feels to "it's intrinsic beauty, historical value and collectability”. The Art Deco jewellery has become very popular, especially pieces set in platinum. Elizabeth in recent years has also expanded her collection to include contemporary pieces in response to fashion trends. These include settings of coloured stones which are very popular. We have also seen a growing popularity in vintage pieces particularly 1940s-1980s, notably costume jewellery some of which has been signed by the Designers, for example Chanel, Miriam Haskell, Kenneth Jay Lane and Lawrence Vrba. This has also created a price point that is accessible by all whilst still maintaining uniqueness, collectability and style. This is particularly exciting as it has expanded our collection which now spans almost 200 years.
The business today concentrates on stylish individual pieces including more diamond items, particularly engagement rings, stud earrings, bracelets and pearls. The business is designed to provide unusual and unique items of jewellery, whether it is for an Engagement, Birthday, Christmas present or just an appreciation of someone special, we have the ideal gift.
Elizabeth Kwan Jewellery is shown at Antique, Vintage and Art Shows around Australia, notably in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth. Elizabeth also offers her clients private showings, giving them first choice after an overseas buying trip. Private appointments are also available. Elizabeth also regularly lectures on the jewellery from the early periods, at charity functions and other worthy events.
Most recently her daughter Olivia has joined the business providing a new dynamic through her Gemmological studies. This has given the business a fresh approach and introduced a new generation of clients.
